Types of transformation of energy When talking about types of transformation of energy, there are many ways, which include: 1. state changes: • Solid to liquid: Melting ice into water (thermal energy to potential and kinetic energy) • Liquid to gas: Boiling water into steam (thermal energy to kinetic energy) • Gas to plasma: Lightning striking air (electrical energy to thermal and radiant energy) 2. Changes in type: • Chemical to electrical: Batteries converting chemical energy in chemicals to electrical energy • Electrical to magnetic: Electromagnets transform electrical energy into magnetic energy • Radiant to chemical: Plants use photosynthesis to convert sunlight (radiant energy) into chemical energy (glucose) 3. Changes in motion: • Potential to kinetic: A roller coaster falling from a hill (potential energy to kinetic energy) • Kinetic to thermal: Friction slowing down a moving object (kinetic energy to thermal energy) • Kinetic to sound: Vibrations from a guitar string creating sound waves (kinetic energy to sound energy) 4.
