1 .
Mouth: You chew food to break it down into smaller pieces, and saliva starts breaking down some of the food.
Stomach: The food gets mixed with stomach juices, breaking it down further.
Small Intestine: Here, the food gets broken down into tiny pieces by digestive juices so the body can absorb it.
2. Absorption
Small Intestine: Tiny finger-like structures called villi absorb nutrients from the broken-down food into the blood.
Large Intestine: Absorbs water from the leftover food, turning it into solid waste.
3. Pathway
Eat: Food goes into your mouth.
Swallow: Food travels down to your stomach.
Break Down: The stomach and small intestine break the food into nutrients.
Absorb: The small intestine absorbs the nutrients into the blood.
Remove Waste: The large intestine absorbs water, and what’s left becomes waste that leaves the body.
This process gives your body the energy and nutrients it needs to function!
