Circular Motion
Many satellites move in a circular path around the earth and make it possible for us to have television, navigation like GPS, satellite radio, and much more.
There are more uses of Circular path : Ceiling fan's blades rotating around a hub, a stone that is tied to a rope and is being swung in circles, a car turning through a curve in a race track, an electron moving perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field, etc.
But How are these objects staying in a Circular Path?
Centripetal Force
It is Staying in that Motion because of a Force towards the Centre : Centripetal Force.
Centripetal force is the force on an object on a circular path that keeps the object moving on the path. It's always directed towards the center of the path, at right angles to the object's motion.
Factors and Equations
There are 3 Factors for a Force :
1. Speed increases if Force Increases.
2. Radius decreases if Force Increases.
3. More Force is needed for More Mass.
Centripetal force is generated as an attractive force between two objects. This attraction can be the result of a physical connection (tension), gravitational, magnetic, or electrical attraction, as well as the force of friction.
The Equation for Centripetal Force : Fc = mv^2 / r
Can you explain how the radius decreases if force increases (as given in point no.2 in 3 factors of force)
in case of a rotating fan?
Of what?
It's in the Video!
Logic ?
Derive Formula
Yes.
When centripetal acceleration is constant, it means that the force acting towards the center of the circular path is uniform. As a result, the speed remains constant because the magnitude of centripetal acceleration is always constant, given that the velocity and radius remain constant for a specific uniform circular motion. However, the direction of the centripetal acceleration changes continuously as the object moves along the circular path.
Centripetal force is considered an unbalanced force because for an object to follow a circular path, there needs to be a force acting perpendicular to the object's velocity and pointing towards the center. This force is essential to maintain the circular motion, and if it were balanced, the object would move in a straight line instead.
The power of a centripetal force in circular motion is zero, as the force and velocity are perpendicular to each other, resulting in no work done.
Centripetal force is zero when a body is at rest or moving in a straight line.
