Cell wall: A rigid outer layer that provides support and protection to the cell. It is made up of cellulose, a complex sugar that is not found in animal cells.
Cell membrane: A selectively permeable membrane that controls the movement of materials in and out of the cell.
Cytoplasm: A jelly-like substance that fills the cell and suspends the organelles.
Nucleus: The control center of the cell, containing genetic information (DNA) in the form of chromosomes.
Endoplasmic reticulum (ER): A network of membranes that transport materials
Vacuole: A large sac that stores water, nutrients, and waste products. Plant cells typically have one large vacuole.
Chloroplasts: Organelles that contain chlorophyll, the pigment that gives plants their green color. Chloroplasts are responsible for photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide into sugar (glucose) for food.
