lesson 1.3 ,p:no 10
Water for support
· Water help the plant to stand upright without wilting.
· Plant cells contain lot of water especially in vacuole.
· The cells get expanded and press out each other to make the plant firm.
· Lack of water make the plant soft and weak.
· This leads to wilting.
Water for transport
· Water is transported from roots to the leaves through tubes called xylem.
· Mineral salts are also transported through water.
· Xylem and Phloem
· Xylem are tube like thing in the plant.
· It transports water and minerals to the leaf.
· The leaves make food with the help of water.
· The xylem cell is like
· phloem takes the food from the leaf and transport it to all parts.
· The cells of phloem look like
· Xylem can only transport substance on one direction.
· Phloem can transport substance to both directions.
·
·
Water for cooling
· The water from xylem spreads out in the leaf.
· When this water evaporates and stay in the air gap in the leaf.
· The plants will be cooled
Water for photosynthesis
· Water is essential for photosynthesis.
· Water combines with carbon dioxide inside the chloroplast.
· photosynthesis result in glucose and oxygen.
Questions
· What is the difference between xylem and phloem?
· Explain photosynthesis.
· Why do plants wilt.
· Name the different type of cells in plants.
· How does water go through xylem against gravity?
Is there any problem for too much Water?
