Distillation is a process where you separate 2 or more kinds of mixture , Diagrammatically lets look how do we separate 2 mixtures through distillation and through temperature and time graph lets see when does it melt and when does it cool down
Process of Distillation
First we have distilling flask which contains the mixture , we pour oil bath , we cant pour water cause it will evaporate in the normal atmosphere while oil wont
We heat up the oil and turn it into gas aka steam or vapor , as the vapor passes it gets measured by a thermometer for observations on the temperature
It gets passed through a pipe where it gets cool , h20 goes out and gets in , it wont mix with the gas as it is poured in the outer pipe , as you can see down , h20 gets in and out to cool the vapor and convert it to liquid.
As it passes , it goes through a vacuum adapter , to remove vacuum or air , finally the liquid is on the receiving flask and gets poured on the beaker with ice under it
Example
hexanes boiling point is 68 degree , as it turns 68 degree it turns into vapor and goes through the pipe and gets separated , but if we increase the temperature then even toluene will evaporate with hexane , to separate hexane and toluene just take out hexane you will get toluene And the diagrammatic representation is right over the left , temperature and time
