Alzheimer’s Disease

  • What is it? A progressive brain disorder causing memory loss, confusion, and behavioral changes. It is the most common cause of dementia.

  •  Beta-amyloid plaques (protein buildup disrupting brain signals)

  •  Tau tangles (damaging neurons)

  • Aging, genetics, poor lifestyle, and brain inflammation Symptoms:  Early: Forgetfulness, trouble finding words, mood changes Middle: Confusion, difficulty recognizing people, personality shifts Late: Severe memory loss, inability to walk or talk, full dependency

  • Treatment: No cure, but medications (donepezil, memantine) slow progression. Healthy lifestyle and mental exercises may help delay decline.
