Chapter-Thermal energy Temperature • Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the atoms or molecules in the system. • Temperature is basically, the average kinetic energy in system of atoms or molecules, right? then what does that mean. Well it means that the atomes or particles in a object is moving(in a molecular level) and hence it is moving it has kinetic energy, so when we calculate the average kinetic energy of the entire set of atoms or particles , we get temperature,also, only if the kinetic energy of the entire set of atoms increase, only then the temperature will increase. How we calculate it • Well we usually use 2 basic units, celsius and kelvin. • Kelvin = celsius + 273.15 • Celsius = Kelvin - 273.15 If we have a data, which says that the freezing point of water is 0 degreee celsius, and the boiling point of water is 100 degree celsius, how do we convert it into kelvin? well we simply use the formula, k = c + 273.15, hence 0 degree celsius is 273.15 kelvin, and 100 degree clesius is 373.15 kelvin.

Temperature is basically, the average kinetic energy in system of atoms or molecules, right? then what does that mean.
