In situations where resources are limited, we are forced to discover new ways to make the most of what we have. Examples where scarcity and choice interact • In the natural world: When resources are scarce, animals must compete for them. This competition can lead to conflict and even death. • In the economy: When there is a shortage of a particular good or service, the price of that good or service will go up. This can lead to inflation and hardship for people who cannot afford to pay the higher prices. • In our personal lives: When we are short on time, we have to make difficult choices about how to spend that time. We may have to give up some activities that we enjoy in order to make time for more important things.
