The respiratory system helps us to breathe [take in and give out air]
provide oxygen to various part of our body .
It is made up of various organs .
Main Parts of the Respiratory System:
Nose/Mouth: Air enters through our nose or mouth. The nose has tiny hairs that filter dust and germs.
Trachea (Windpipe): This is a tube that carries air to the lungs.
Lungs: The main organs where oxygen is taken in and carbon dioxide is removed. We have two lungs, one on each side of our chest.
Diaphragm: A muscle below the lungs that helps us breathe in and out. When we breathe in, it moves down; when we breathe out, it moves up
How it works
Inhaling: When we breathe in, the diaphragm contracts and moves down. This creates more space in the chest, and air rushes into the lungs.
Exhaling: When we breathe out, the diaphragm relaxes and moves up, pushing air out of the lungs..
You breathe about 20 times a minute when you're resting!
The average person breathes in about 11,000 liters of air each day!
The respiratory system helps us breathe.
Main parts include the nose/mouth, trachea, lungs, and diaphragm.
We inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide.
