Chapter Name: BIRDS
.Birds are vertebrate animals that have feathers, wings and beaks.
.Birds fly with help of their wings.
T.hey have strong muscles to move the wings. These are called flight muscles.
The body of a bird is desinged to help it it . It is like a boat. The pointed head and beak help the bird to cut through the air. This is called steamlined body.
The body of birds is light because it is made up of hollow bones. This helps it to fly easily and for a long period of time.
The tail of a bird helps it to change direction while flying.
Feathers
They help the bird to fly, keep the body warm and give it shape.
Birds have 3 types of feathers .
Flight feathers are large in size. These feathers are found in the tail and wings. They help birds to lift themselves and provide balance for flight
Down feathers grow close to the skin and keep the bird warm . These short, soft and fluffy. A newborn bird has a lot of down feathers.
Body feathers round out the steamlined body of the bird. They give shape to the birds body.
Different birds have feathers of different colours.
