Contaminated water and poor sanitation are linked to transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea and polio.

2. Things You Can Do To Reduce Water Pollution:

DO NOT pour fat from cooking or any other type of fat, oil, or grease down the sink.

DO NOT dispose of household chemicals or cleaning agents down the sink or toilet.

DO NOT flush pills, liquid or powder medications or drugs down the toilet.

3. Wastewater contains different toxic compounds harmful to human health and natural ecosystems. Wastewater treatment plants help purify the water by removing toxic impurities and reversing the situation in developing countries.

4. Water pollutants include contamination due to domestic wastes, insecticides and herbicides, food processing waste, pollutants from livestock operations, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), heavy metals, chemical waste, and others.
