EMS-National ecosystems and human activity, page no 187
What is an ecosystem:
An ecosystem is defined as all the living things{biotic components}together with all the non-living things{abiotic components} in an area. These biotic and abiotic components interact with each other.
What is a ecosystem structure:
The living things in an ecosystem can be described at a number of different levels.
• Populations: Populations are made up of all the individuals of the same species in a area. Examples of populations include all frogs in pond, all the drongos in a forest or all the elephants in a national park.
• Communities: Communities are made up of all the species characteristics of a particular ecosystems. Examples include all the different species of animal in the Arctic tundra or all the plants in the Arctic tundra, representing the animal and plant communities respectively.
